When our mothers were still brides, the mode back then was if a woman wanted her wedding to be perfect, she handled all the details of the planning and preparation for her wedding by herself. She met with the dressmakers for her gown and for her bridesmaids’ dresses, with the caterer for the food to be served at her wedding banquet, with the bakers for her wedding cake. Every aspect of her wedding went past her scrutinizing eye and everything had her personal touch. If she needed help, all she needed to do was take her sisters, her girlfriends and her mother along.
But that is not the case for today’s brides. While yesterday’s brides have more time at their disposal, time is not something that can be easily managed for today’s brides. The bride of today usually juggles a career and other commitments, and probably children from previous marriages, and so cannot always spare the time to devote to looking after all the details of her upcoming wedding. The stress of everyday life added with the stress of preparing for a wedding can be too much for bridal nerves, so much that instead of being happy, the woman usually has the bridal blues.
Thankfully, today’s brides have guardian angels who are more than capable of taking care of all the details needed to ensure the perfect wedding without demanding too much of the bride’s time. These guardian angels are called wedding planners.
{mosimage} Hiring a wedding planner is the most practical move that a bride can make if she wants to have her dream wedding but cannot afford to focus on the necessary preparations. Contrary to popular notion, hiring a wedding planner is not expensive. Many of them are quite flexible. Some charge a flat rate while some offer packages for the bride to choose from. Some, on the other hand, just charge a certain percentage of the total budget intended for the wedding.
While it is almost impossible to attain perfection when holding a wedding, it is at least imperative that the wedding itself should proceed smoothly, with nary a hitch. Therefore, a bride should be careful in choosing the wedding planner to engage for her wedding. When choosing a wedding planner, a bride should not hesitate to ask her candidate everything she feels that she should ask concerning how the wedding planner conducts her events. The bride must ask for a list of references from her prospective wedding planners and use these references to make a background check on her candidates. If it is possible, the bride should ask her candidate wedding planner if she could look in one of her events just so she could see how the wedding planner manages that said event.
The bride should remember that the wedding planner is supposed to be more experienced and more knowledgeable than her in dealing with the details of weddings. So, the wedding planner should be able to advice her well on what decisions to make regarding her wedding, to get her discounts in buying materials and services for the wedding, and most of all, to keep the costs well within the budget without sacrificing quality.
