For most brides-to-be, choosing the wedding dress is probably the most important detail that they need to attend to when preparing for the big day. After all, the wedding day is the bride’s big day and all eyes will be on her when she marches down the aisle. So naturally, she would want her dress to be absolutely perfect.
But how does one choose the absolutely perfect wedding dress? Most brides have already pictured the perfect wedding dress for them in their minds since they were little girls, so they already know what they want once they go shopping for it. Other brides, on the other hand, need help in deciding. One way to go through it is to browse through bridal magazines and clip pictures of wedding gowns that they like.
The bride should take her time choosing her wedding dress. In fact, it is very, very much recommended that she start shopping for her wedding dress at least six months before the big day. In this way, the bride will be able to pick a dress that really suits and fits her, and that she would not have to worry about last-minute alterations. The cost of last-minute alterations on wedding gowns can be pretty expensive, and it is something a bride should not bother being stressed up about.
When shopping around for a dress, the bride should fit the dress before buying it. Some cultures, however, frown on trying on the wedding dress before the wedding because of an old superstition that the wedding itself might get cancelled. It depends on the bride if she believes in that superstition, but trying on the dress is the most practical way of knowing if the dress suits her or not before she buys it.
{mosimage}In trying on wedding dresses, the bride should take note if the dress itself feels comfortable. It is important for the bride to feel comfortable in the wedding dress and to make sure that it does not feel itchy, that she can sit down without worrying over it, that she can walk gracefully without tripping on it, and that it will not crowd her, her father or her groom when she rides in the bridal limo.
The bride should also take care to make sure that her dress does not make her look fat and puffy. Now why is this so? That is to spare her from the nightmares of seeing herself look ungainly in her wedding photos. Pictures can be cruel and they can add ten pounds to any woman wearing white. So, if the bride feels that she looks fat in the dress while looking at herself on the mirror, she should consider what she would look like on the photos.
The budget is the most important thing that a bride should think of when choosing a wedding dress. It is nice to wear a truly lovely designer creation on the wedding day, but it is not only the dress that the bride will have to spend on for her wedding day. A bride may consider scouting vintage shops, consignment shops or secondhand shops if she wants to be really practical on her dress. Better yet, she can ask her mother, her grandmother, or her sisters and friends if she can borrow their wedding dresses. Wearing heirloom dresses to one’s wedding can be so sweet. Just make sure that the borrowed dress fits you, is clean and does not need repairs.
