This movie will give you the laugh. While most wedding movies share a hint of romance and comedy, this movie is like coffee without the milk and sugar, it’s just plain black… black comedy. Seeing two couple live a fairy tale love story of falling, marrying, establishing a family and creating a setting of a house in perfection and realizing you just want to break free from it.
This movie stars the younger Michael Douglas and the younger Kathleen Turner who are now both popularly famous actors and the movie that was directed and starred by Danny DeVito himself.
The War of the Rose is a story of a couple that showed how they fell in love in the beginning. Oliver and Barbara Rose is a couple that got married and cultivated a home that is sleeked in designs of a true craft of a house that Barbara glazed upon decorating herself as her role in the family became the home maker. The house was site of well best groomed house good for a magazine cover.
The pretension of a perfect family went on for years while their two kids was still growing up, until the point came that both were just all grown up and left the place. One day all of the perfection changed when someone woke up and realized that the marriage wasn’t so perfect after all. After Oliver’s heart attack, Barbara confessed of her ill gotten hatred for Oliver that led her to decide that she wants out of the marriage. It was then that the bitter battle began amongst the two.
The range in comedy began as they were at each other’s throats not being able to reach a proper settlement through their divorce process. Ill acts began to take play, extremes like running a car over a car; Locking someone in the sauna room were foul moves made in a midrange display that will humor you gradually.
Danny Davito is the narrator who is also the lawyer of the Roses of this movie that made the movie itself play on as all the more balanced in perspective since Davito gave his sympathy for both.
Barbara attacks and Oliver counter attacks, it was a hint of a so called parable in Middle East or Northern Ireland.
In its weirdness, the approach of this film earned it’s attention world wide in it’s own style.
