Wedding clichés are the worst. You go to one wedding and you see the same stuff happens. The same quotes are said. The same motif is chosen. The same food is served. The only difference is the two people getting married and sometimes not even then. However, some of the clichés are tolerable because there are simply a limited number of things to choose from on that category. What is unforgiveable are the wedding songs. There is a about a million love songs out there and somehow we wind up we wind up with the same songs in every wedding. If you want to be remembered, here are some songs that can be used in a wedding but somehow, have never been used.
1) Would you be my Number 2- Let’s face it, some people are getting married for the second time or the third time. Let’s not pretend that the elephant does not exist in the room shall we? Songs saying that “You’re the one for me” is incredibly stupid knowing that you have gotten married before. This song at least is truthful and honest.
2) 2 Become 1- This classic song from the Spice Girls is both exciting and real. The Lyrics itself is actually about marriage if you think about it. “Come a little bit closer baby, put it on, put it on (the wedding ring). Coz tonight, is the night, when two become one…(the wedding). I do not understand why people cannot see this.
3) Through the Fire - This song is most appropriate for “You and me against the world” Wedding situations. It is a song that I know Romeo and Juliet would appreciate. “Through the fire! Through the limit through the wall! For a chance to be with you, I’d gladly risk it all”
4) With or Without You - this song is most appropriate if you think that your spouse has the potential of being a nagging wife or a no-good drunk of a husband. You love him, you hate him…ehhh what can you do? “I can’t live, with or without you”
5) All You Need is Love - Awww…. A Beatles Classic? In this list? What gives? Well this song is very much timely. If you’re getting married during a time of recession, this just might be the song for you. No money? No car? No house? No bank account? All you need is love.
6) Two Less Lonely People - Air Supply has been known for their love songs and it is a wonder why nobody uses their songs in weddings. They have a full arsenal of love songs and one of the most unique songs that would be a god wedding song is “Two Less Lonely People”. Basically, this song is incredibly appropriate for two losers who have found each other. If you listen to the lyrics, you would realize that the great thing that happened here is that the world has two less losers.
7) Amazing - Perhaps there is only one loser in the relationship and if such is the case, “Amazing” by Aerosmith can be your theme. Originally a song about a man recovering from drug abuse, it could also mean a man who lost everything he has only to be saved by his new found love. “It’s Amazing… with the blink of an eye, you finally see the light. It’s Amazing, when the moment arrives and you know you will be alright.” These words evoke the idea that you found your stability in your spouse and even if you’re a little bit crazy, you at least have someone to lean on to. A special bonus in the song is that he wishes others to feel the same way as he does. “…And I’m saying a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight.”
God Only Knows - This classic song from The Beach Boys should not be in this list because it should’ve been a fairly common song for weddings. One of the greatest song ever written, it wins special points for truthfulness. Part of the lyrics goes, “I may not always love you…” This is as accurate as any marriage can be. There will be times when during your marriage, you will get mad or hate each other. However, the song goes to the chorus which should tell you how the person feels about his wife, “God only knows what I’ll be without you,” The song is about commitment as any marriage should be.
9) The Way You Look Tonight - Weddings as they say, (and I mean women), are about the brides. This is the perfect song to honor the bride as it plainly puts the focus on them. For a lot of people, the wedding is the highlight of their marriage and people always look back during that time to recall how they feel about their spouse. Sometimes, marriages have problems and the spouses fail to remember why they love each other. The song shows desire to go back to that magical night. “ Someday, when I’m all alone, and the world is cold, I will feel the glow just thinking of you, and the way you look tonight.” It could even mean that one would love the other person even if the other is no longer with him or her.
10) Lose Yourself - Well I guess marriage is a battle. Actually the wedding itself is a battle. It is possible that people who are about to get married can get cold feet and never show up. They could also show up and not say a single thing when it’s their turn to pledge their love for the other. Weddings are sacred but sometimes you should simply understand what you are getting into. “You better lose yourself in the music, the moment, you own it, you better never let it go. You only get one shot do not miss the chance to blow, coz opportunity comes but once in a lifetime yo.”

I really like Chris Rice “When did you fall” it’s a great song with a good message. Dave barnes has some excellent music for weddings as well, just off the beaten path and unique.
